Top alternative options for Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro alternatives in 2020? Kdenlive is an open-source editing software alternative which does the job pretty well. Perfect if you’re a Linux user! It offers all the core features you would need: multi-track video editing, almost all audio and video formats, 2D titler tool, and many effects to choose from. As a bonus, there are a whole lot of free plugins available if you need anything more. It isn’t the most straightforward program to pick up on and requires some time to figure things out before you can fall into a seamless workflow. Since Kdenlive is completely free, it’s definitely worth looking at though — and this editor will work on a Windows, Mac, or Linux system.

Ahh, Avid — the one NLE that editors love to hate. I trained in Avid in college, and as much as I hated slogging through the textbook and the antiquated features of the program, I grew to love it in a weird way. It’s incredible at handling feature-length projects, and the organization tools inside of the program are hard to match. It won’t blink at high resolution video, or shy away from a monster timeline. It’s the workhorse of all of the NLEs out there. It’s still the overwhelming choice of NLE for most Hollywood-level productions due to its enterprise and project-sharing abilities. And, I will say, after the upgrades in the recent update it looks a lot friendlier and modern compared to the blocky grey blob it used to be. If you are serious about becoming an editor for a post house or grinding your way to entering the ACE guild, Avid is the right choice.

DaVinci Resolve 15 is one of the most popular video editing suites in professional movie studios, along with Premiere. There are two options – Resolve 15 and Resolve 15 Studio. The former is free to download and use, while the latter is priced similarly to Premiere’s cheapest subscription plan. As much as its power, Resolve 15 is also known for its steep learning curve, something that might scare beginners off. Also, this fantastic program allows multiple users to edit the same project simultaneously, a feature available nowhere else. Other strengths of DaVinci Resolve 15 include multicam editing, color correction, video effects, audio production, advanced filters, and more. Resolve is compatible with Windows and macOS. There’s no doubt that Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the best video editing tools that is out in the market right now. It is the go-to choice for many video professionals including many famous YouTubers along with professionals working in the movie and TV industry (Dust to Glory, Superman Returns, Avatar, Deadpool are some examples). That speaks volumes about the power of Adobe Premiere Pro. However, like any other piece of software, it is not flawless and it has its own fair share of problems. For example, Adobe Premiere Pro has a history of compatibility issues with the macOS operating system. Just a few months back, a new bug was found which wreaked havoc and caused heavy thermal throttling in the new Macs. I also don’t like the fact that Adobe Premiere Pro comes with a subscription pricing which means I have to pay a monthly fee of $19.99 if I want to keep using this software. Adobe Premiere Pro is also very resource hungry which means that you can only use it if you have a powerful setup.

iMovie is a part of the Apple iLife software for iPhone and iPad. The video editing screen is similar to iMovie for Mac and is divided into three different screens. It is very easy to create films using this Adobe Premiere alternative. Clips can be viewed by simply dragging them with your finger. Before adding videos to the project, you can crop them. If you want to divide a clip, you need to set the cursor, select the clip and drag it down along the cursor. To change the time interval of the clip (or frame) in the film, drag the ends of the clip (frame) in the appropriate direction.
